Skiing in Uttaranchal

Auli
Auli is major skiing option in India. The altitude of Auli is 2750m, 14 km from Joshimath which is well connected with motors and is an ideal winter resorts. Slopes of Auli covered with dense forest of deodar and oak forest. It offers a panoramic view of Nanda Devi Peak (7,817m), Kamet (7,756m), Mana Parvat (7,273) and Doonagiri (7,066m).

Garwhal Mandal Vikas Nigam provides all the equipments for skiing with this One should bring woolens clothing like caps, socks, gloves, mufflers, Pullover, trouser, windproof jackets, dark glasses, snow boots, and torch.

Accomadation are provided by GMVN and other private hotels and resorts.

Training courses are conducted by GMVN for 7 to 15 days in the month of January, February and March.

Best season are December to March.

Accessibilities for Auli are by Air, the nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, 273 km from Joshimath, 17 km from Rishikesh.
Nearest Railway Station is Haridwar which is 299km from Auli, and Haridwar is 24km from Rishikesh.
Auli is only 14 km drive from Joshimath. State transport and Union buses play regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 km).

Mundali

 Mundali in the altitude of 2700m is another skiing spot. Snow capped mountain with a remarkable panoramic view of Himalayas, Mundali is situated in Dehradun District. It is 129 km from Dehradun city via Chakrata. From Chakrata to Mundali is 36 km via Kandaband,Kathiya and Dharagarh. Mundali is 2.5 km trek from Daragarh and is surrounded by lush green forest.  

Skiing could be little hard in Mundali because One has to arrange all the equipment by itself.  It has vast ski slopes on which only professional can enjoy skiing.

Munsiyari

Munsiyari is located in the altitude of 2290m on the bank of Gori Ganga river, 125km from Pithoragarh via Thal, Tejam, Kalamuni and 69km from jauljibi via Madkot .The name ‘Munsiyari’ refers ‘place of snow’.depot The native of Munsiayi are Bhotiya’s. Munsiyari provides splendid view of Panchuli peaks. In winters the alpine slopes of Khaliatop and Betuli dhar offers skiing opportunities.Betuli dhar is 5km and Khalia top is 7 km from Munsiyari.

 

 KMVN tourist rest houses and PWD inspection Banglow provides accommodation.  There is also some private lodges where one can stay.
