Histroy Dehradun is references in some Hindu text as land of Shiva.Lord Rama an Laxman came here for penance and Pandavas rested here while going to Himalayas. Apart from this, Emperor Ashoka once ruled here. For about two decades till 1815 it was under gorkhas.in 1815 Britisher occupy here and made Dehradun a military base and educational center. The name Dehradun is found by Sikh Guru Ram Rai whose came and stay here and give the name �Dhera�. The name changes with time. After Independence it became the commercial town and capital of Uttaranchal state.
